Welcome to Acid Reflux Today
Heartburn is a generic term for gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, or reflux and also, acid reflux.
It is a disorder where the acidic juices of the stomach flows back (reflux) into the esophagus. The stomach walls are made to withstand acids that are produced when food is digested in the stomach. But, the esophagus, which is the tube that passes food from the throat to the stomach, has a very thin lining and does not have the protective strength of the stomach. Thus when stomach acids reflux into the esophagus it makes the lower section of the esophagus painful and irritated. This painful inflammation is called reflux esophagitis.
Acid reflux can occur in anyone. If you suffer from acid reflux there are some simple things that you can do to alleviate the pain and countless easy ways for you to steer clear of acid reflux, and there’s no time like the present to start trying them.
